How It All Began
My introduction to German Shepherds came at an early age with our family dog Fred. This prompted a life long love of the breed and the purchase of my first German Shepherd "Gina" in 1974. She produced my first litter of puppies in 1979 and from then on I was hooked.

Lazita of Bedwin
With the affix "Jacamar" I successfully bred a number of litters that made wonderful family pets but my ultimate aim was to produce top class show dogs whilst maintaining the temperament and versatility of the true German Shepherd Dog. In 1989 with a change of personal circumstances and the purchase of Lazita of Bedwin I registered the affix "Avinja's". Zita in her own right attained top honours at local shows but exhibiting started in earnest with her offspring.
Lazita of Bedwin produced a litter of puppies to the import Arko v Hunnagrab one of which was my well-known top producing female Avinja's Celebrity. In Zita's next litter to Champion Laios v Noort she produced my first Champion, Avinja's Griff. It was when Griff was a puppy that I joined forces with Tony Hughes (Codel's German Shepherds) and the long campaign began.

Our first sucess was Champion Avinja's Griff, pictured left, quickly followed by Ch Avinja's Odin, one of A.Celebrity's many successful offspring. Her progeny also included Ch.A.Henry who is currently enjoying great success in Kenya as well as the top winning female A.Reesha owned by Dee and John Paul and A.Tina owned by Phil and Maggie Snell.
Currently we have A.Tazz and his son Amondahl Oberon at Avinja's together with A.Lucy to go forward with in the future.
Welcome To Our Home
All our dogs enjoy family life here at Avinja's. Situated in the heart of the Lancashire countryside and nestling between open farmland and Meresands Nature Reserve, the dogs have access to five acres of private land.
The kennels are situated at the rear of the house with a large play area ideal for the dogs to laze in the sun, although they usually choose to come in the adjoining kitchen door and lie near my feet!
Off the kitchen is a purpose built nursery where mum and her puppies enjoy seclusion and privacy whilst still being open to all the noises and attention of a normal household environment.
All our dogs are much loved members of the family spending most of the day in the house with us, usually as near to the fire as possible!
Normal exercising is in a one acre fenced field which we are in the process of equipping with agility obstacles so increasing the dogs mental as well as physical stimulation
